This week we got delivered out Unit 2 assessment which is referred to as the "long and lean assignment". This is an ongoing essay project showing personal professional development and the journey of our work as artists within our specific field. As for right now, continuing with my weekly blog posts including accurate analysis and self improvement using the SWAT method through photographs and other media to then create my presentation to deliver in May. In addition
My current plan is to compiling these pieces of media and discuss my journey throughout the course. The brief itself asks for "a presentation lasting 15-20 minutes" which hopefully I can achieve with the work that I am doing during my time on and off campus.
We have also arranged to do '360 feedback session' which seems like a good tool for us to use to better ourselves as artists and students while also providing evidence for our Unit 2 assessment.
After this, we then moved onto our comments and feedback that we got on our first learning objective draft that we submitted last week. It was somewhat reassuring that a lot of us were struggling how to word the assessment and understand the questions being asked. Thankfully after that session, I personally felt that I understood what the learning objectives and mark scheme was asking of me.
As far as out Unit 25 (Special FX); we further decided to make a basic theme for what we will base our attack around in which we have decided to pick 'a shooter in a shopping centre' while also focusing it around the safeguarding posters around college which talk about 'Run, Hide, Tell'.
We then moved onto talking about our ideas of what we want to create and start sculpting with clay. But before that we decided to practice painting some prosthetic pieces. I decided to explore using my airbrush and new alcohol palette and paint some silicone pieces that were had left over from other projects. I decided to start working on an ankle compound fracture and so I started out by painting the bone piece in an off white colour, before going in with some skin tone colour and a darker dried blood colour around the edge. I also used a tooth brush to splatter blood across the piece to add some realism. Right now, as you can see in the photo, it isn't the most realistic as I feel that once applied with the correct amount of blood and other details it will complete the look of it.
My task that I have set myself for this week is to complete a full first draft of my Unit 1 essay so then I can focus more on my Unit 25 essay and also my portfolio slides that accompanies. I also want to make a start on some of my Unit 2 and just collect some notes and images in a folder ready for my film making!
